How Do You Size a Copper-Silver Ionization System?
CSI systems are sized based on water consumption, temperature, age, chemistry, and plumbing design among other factors. The first step is an engineering site visit and completion of a CSI datasheet which identifies the specifics of your facility’s water system. The CSI engineers use this information to design the specific system components required to meet the water demands of your facility.
How Do Copper-Silver Ionization Systems Work?
Copper silver ionization is a non-chemical water treatment technology regarded as one of the most clinically effective prevention and remediation solution for Legionella and other bacteria. Positively charged silver and copper ions are systematically introduced into the water using a byproduct-free method to rid plumbing infrastructure of Legionella bacteria and other negatively charged bacteria. Copper ions weaken the bacteria cell walls while silver causes lysis (death). CSI introduces disinfectant ions at doses of approximately 0.1 – 0.8 ppm of copper (Cu2+) and 30 – 80 ppb silver (Ag+) to travel throughout the plumbing infrastructure and attack Legionella in various parts of the plumbing distribution system. Both these ranges are well below EPA maximum allowable levels of 1.3 ppm and 100 ppb respectively. The levels of the ions should be monitored on a going basis, and Nancrede Engineering can provide easy-to-use options, ranging from manual testing to inline testing. Notably, the installation of a copper-silver ionization may not require the evacuation of the facility like some treatment options do for certain populations.
