Typical Legionella Prevention Tactics

The most important way to prevent Legionnaires’ disease is to maintain the water supply properly.  Legionella bacteria cannot grow and multiply if the water is maintained. This means water systems should be monitored, inspected and, if necessary, disinfected. Many Indiana hospitals use an array of disinfectant systems. Some facilities use chemical injection, like chlorine dioxide or mixed oxidant solution. Others use non-chemical prevention methods, such as Copper Silver Ionization (CSI).
