Point of Use Legionella (POU) Filters: Pricing, Brands, and What You Need to Know

Get FDA-cleared, healthcare-grade point of use Legionella filters from Legionella Control Systems, an independent Legionella control firm led by an ASSE 12080-certified mechanical engineer. We supply point of use (POU) Legionella filters for hospitals, long-term care facilities, hotels, correctional facilities, condo associations, and commercial buildings across the United States.

These are not the filters you find on Amazon. Every filter we carry is FDA-cleared, built to commercial and healthcare standards, and engineered to remove Legionella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM), and any other pathogen larger than 0.2 micron at the fixture, right where people are exposed.

How much do point of use Legionella filters cost?

Point of use Legionella filters range from $99 to $489 per unit.

That price encompasses shower head Legionella filters, sink and faucet POU filters, and inline point of use Legionella filters. Models at the higher end of the price range often include an installation kit.

Installation labor is not included in the unit price and can be quoted separately based on your facility and scope of work. For facilities that need more than 100 units, volume pricing is available, and we will put together a custom quote.

Filter Type Price Range Installation Kit Notes
Shower Head Legionella Filter $99 to $299 Included on select models Installation labor quoted separately; same-day shipping available
Sink and Faucet Legionella Filter $99 to $249 Included on select models Installation labor quoted separately; same-day shipping available
Inline Point of Use Legionella Filter $186 to $489 Included on select models Installation labor quoted separately; same-day shipping available

How fast do POU Legionella filters ship?

Most orders ship the same day. Nearly all orders ship by the next business day.

Shipping speed is something we take seriously at Legionella Control Systems because facilities often need these filters fast, particularly during an active outbreak investigation, after a positive Legionella test result, or ahead of a Joint Commission survey. Depending on when your order is placed, same-day shipping is frequently available. Next-business-day shipping is the standard for virtually all orders. If you are in an urgent situation, call us directly at 888-416-8626 and we will work with you to get filters to your facility as quickly as possible.

How long do POU Legionella filters last before replacement?

POU filters generally last 1- 4 months, and some inline filters last up to 6 months.

POU filters’ minimum lifetime is generally 1 month. More expensive models with more filter material last up to four months, and some larger filters even last six months. However, there are no guarantees on how long a filter will last. If there is a lot of sediment in the water, the filters may not last as long.

What brands of POU Legionella filters does Legionella Control Systems carry?

We carry all major commercial and healthcare-grade brands, including Nephros and Aquamedix.

Nephros and Aquamedix are among the most recognized names in healthcare-grade point of use filtration, and they represent the standard of filters we work with. We are not locked into a single manufacturer. As an independent Legionella control firm, we can specify and supply the right filter for your particular fixture type, system pressure, flow rate, and risk profile. If you are not sure which product is the right fit for your facility, we can help you figure that out.

What pathogens do POU Legionella filters remove?

At a maximum pore size of 0.2 micron, these filters physically remove Legionella, Pseudomonas, NTM, and all bacteria and pathogens of comparable or larger size.

The filters we carry range from 0.2 micron down to 0.005 micron for the most demanding applications. At 0.2 micron absolute, you get reliable physical removal of Legionella pneumophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM), three organisms that are increasingly recognized as serious threats in healthcare-associated infections.

Physical removal at the fixture is one of the most dependable protections you can put in place, particularly in high-risk areas like immunocompromised patient rooms, ICUs, oncology units, transplant units, and any area where vulnerable people use water directly from the tap or shower.

Are these filters FDA-cleared?

Yes. All of the POU Legionella filters we carry are FDA-cleared. Some carry FDA 510(k) clearance.

The FDA 510(k) pathway is the regulatory clearance process for medical devices. That distinction matters in healthcare and long-term care settings, where regulatory defensibility is part of the conversation when a surveyor or health department comes through. These are commercial and healthcare-grade products, not the low-cost consumer filters available on Amazon or general retail sites. Those products are not manufactured to the same standards, are not FDA-cleared for clinical use, and do not carry the pore integrity guarantees needed to reliably remove Legionella.

Do POU Legionella filters require maintenance?

No. These filters do not require ongoing maintenance. When the service life ends, you either replace the cartridge or the complete unit.

Some models are designed with replaceable filter cartridges, so at the end of service life, only the cartridge is swapped out and the fixture remains in place. Other models are designed as complete replacement units. Either way, there is no ongoing servicing schedule, no chemical treatment, and no mechanical upkeep between replacements. When it is time to change the filter, you change it. We will specify the right model for your situation and give you a clear picture of the expected replacement schedule based on your facility and water quality.

Are these the same filters available on Amazon?

No. These are commercial and healthcare-grade filters that are held to a different standard entirely.

Consumer-grade filters available through general retailers are not manufactured to the pore integrity, material, or regulatory standards required to reliably protect against Legionella and other healthcare-associated waterborne pathogens. Facilities that have purchased low-cost online filters and discovered they didn’t offer the protection they were hoping for have often learned that lesson the hard way. The filters Legionella Control Systems supplies are FDA-cleared, tested to a defined pore size, and manufactured specifically for commercial and healthcare applications.

Who should be using point of use Legionella filters?

Hospitals, long-term care facilities, hotels, correctional facilities, and any facility with a vulnerable population or a regulatory compliance concern.

Point of use filtration is particularly critical in healthcare settings where immunocompromised patients may be at serious risk from waterborne pathogens. Infection control nurses, industrial hygienists, facilities directors, and engineering staff at the following types of organizations regularly specify and install POU Legionella filters: hospitals and health systems, long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, oncology and transplant units, VA and government healthcare facilities, hotels and hospitality properties, correctional facilities and jails, condominium and apartment buildings, and consulting engineering firms specifying for their clients.

If your facility has a water management program under ASHRAE 188, point-of-use filtration at high-risk fixtures is a recognized and recommended control measure. If you have had a positive Legionella test result, POU filtration at the affected fixtures is often the fastest way to protect people while a broader remediation strategy is put in place.

Do we need a Legionella risk assessment before purchasing POU filters?

No, but a Legionella risk assessment or engineering investigation can help you identify the right filter specification and placement for your system.

You do not need a formal assessment before placing an order. If you already know which fixtures need protection and what products are appropriate, you can order directly. That said, Legionella Control Systems offers Legionella risk assessments and engineering investigations for facilities that want a thorough picture of where their risk actually lives, what type and specification of filter is correct for each location, and what else in their water system may need attention beyond point of use filtration. A root cause analysis is especially valuable when Legionella has already been detected, and the facility needs to understand why it is growing and where it is coming from.

Does Legionella Control Systems do anything beyond supplying filters?

Yes. We are a full-service Legionella control firm, not just a filter supplier.

Legionella Control Systems offers Legionella testing, Legionella risk assessments, Legionella remediation, secondary disinfection systems including chlorine dioxide, monochloramines, mixed oxidants, and copper-silver ionization, water management plan development, engineering investigations, and root cause analysis. If your facility has a Legionella problem and you need more than filters, we can help you diagnose and solve it from the ground up.
